How It Started
GoalCodex started as a personal project — a frustration with how hard it was to find clean, queryable goal data without scraping multiple sites or paying for expensive data feeds. The question was simple: which player scored the most penalties in the 2016/17 La Liga season? Getting that answer took more effort than it should have. The first version was a simple filterable table. It grew from there: more competitions, richer filters, individual player and team pages, full match records, head-to-head comparisons, and eventually the AI assistant that lets you search the entire database in plain English.
Free vs. Paid
You don't need an account to use GoalCodex, but access depends on your tier:
- Free (no account): last 12 months of data, basic filters, ads shown
- Free account: same data range, persistent login across visits
- Fan: full historical data from 2011, all filters, no ads
- Pro: everything in Fan, plus CSV export and the AI assistant
Our Commitment
We care about accuracy above all else. Bad data is worse than no data. Our data is sourced from third-party providers and means occasional gaps or inaccuracies can occur — a missing assist, a wrong minute, or a result that hasn't synced yet. We review and correct reported issues as quickly as possible, and the database is updated on a continuous basis.
Data accuracy is a continuous process, not a one-time import. Every time a competition result is updated, a scorer corrected, or an assist added, GoalCodex reflects it within 24 hours. We know that for anyone using this data seriously — a journalist on deadline, an analyst building a model, a researcher cross-checking figures — a wrong number isn't just annoying, it undermines the work. That's why we take correction reports seriously. If you spot something wrong, the contact page goes straight to the people who maintain it.
